Boring can be ok!

Jon stayed home Monday of last week and we were debating whether to make it a boring day (the usual housecleaning, errands, etc) or do something fun and exciting!

We opted for fun and exciting and decided to visit Ft. Collins to see the campus (we went to school there) and look around town, etc. We had managed to look at the campus bookstore and look around at some machines in the engineering building (that Jon had used during labs) when some people told us there were tornado warnings for the area. So we spent the next half hour in the basement trying to keep our boys under control. After the warning expired we ran to our car in the pouring rain and decided to stop at another bookstore in town. We looked around for a while and obviously stayed too long! Ethan was running around and acting up. As Jon was trying to hold him, Ethan was throwing himself around and fell out of Jon' s arms cutting the back of his head open on a metal cabinet/shelf on the floor. So we hurried and drove the hour home to take him into the pediatrician to see if it needed stitches, etc. They decided it did, so we went over to the ER, waited around for a while and then were finally seen by a PA who put 2 staples in Ethan's head. It was decided to not do the lidocaine shot since that hurts too and isn't always the most effective. So they just held him down on the bed and shot the staples in! Poor guy--it's almost like torture, but at least it was to help him! And he only had to have them in for 5 days, so they were removed Sat. (which also hurt him a bit), but the doctor said his head was healing nicely.

Moral of the story: Sometimes choosing the "boring" option isn't bad--we would have saved ourselves the adventure of our 1st ER visit as parents, Ethan a headache!, and a $200 deductible! Somehow I'm thinking that with 2 boys that won't be our last visit--especially if they are anything like their dad and his brothers!
