2 years

It's my 2 year blog-versary! And I'm not even to 100 posts yet! Guess I don't have a lot to say...or I do but can't remember by the time I get to the computer...or I just don't have much time to get to the computer (at least for blogging)!

Here's to blogging--a way to connect with friends and family and keep a record of the happenings of my family (since we can all guess that my efforts to keep a journal are lacking more than my blogging)!

A Day with Jon

So I realize the blog is primarily about me...or at least me dealing with my crazies, I mean children! And Jon is only mentioned in passing or included in a picture of a "family" event. So to make up for that...this post is all about Jon!

I think most people who read the blog probably know--but Jon is a civil engineer for a design firm in downtown Denver. He designs roadways, often with the Department of Transportation as his client--so he sits a computer most days to lay out roads, review plans, figure quantities, etc.

Recently he's been hard at work--his company has been working for a pretty big project in Nevada--maybe you've heard of the new bridge over the Hoover Dam? Or saw this in the newspaper a couple of weeks ago?

So Jon was one of the ones working on this project--he's not a "bridge" engineer, so he didn't do that, but he worked on the roadway approach (from the Nevada side of the bridge) and also designed a parking lot that is adjacent to the bridge. The bridge was finished last month and a grand opening/dedication was scheduled. All those who worked on it were invited to attend, so Jon went to Las Vegas for a couple days to assist in the opening of it. He said it was fun to see a project through to completion (projects typically take years from the time they are designed to the time they are built and sometimes the whole project is "shelved" until there is money in the budget to actually build it).

Here are some pictures Jon took of the project:

The parking lot Jon designed!

Jon couldn't figure out how to do panoramic on my camera...but you get the idea!

This is looking off the bridge back towards the dam

And this is the other direction from off the bridge

5 is Fun!!

I can't believe he's already 5!! It's gone by so fast! Ethan makes us laugh, keeps us busy and drives us crazy at times! What an adventure it has been (is) being his mommy!

A little bit about Ethan at age 5 (as answered by Ethan):

-Favorite food: chicken nuggets, with carrots and apples being his fave (usually only) vegetable/fruit to eat

-Favorite drink: chocolate milk...or Root Beer (when mom lets him)

-Favorite activity: riding his bike or playing in water (that would explain why I discovered the hose had been on for around 2 hours one day this summer!)

-Favorite color: Blue

-Favorite movie: Cars...still
-Favorite book: Alpha Oops by Alethea Kontis and Go Dog. Go! by P. D. Eastman
-Favorite game: Hide and Seek

-He loves going to preschool and playing with his friends

-He is such a ham...I'll have to do a post of some of the goofy poses he does when I pull out the camera

-He enjoys singing

-He's really into games of all kinds: computer games, board games, card games

-He can be really independent, stubborn, and sassy ("no you go to time-out mom")--so needless to say, we often butt heads.
-He can be a big helper; he's starting to help with chores: make his bed, unload/load the dishwasher, set the table, take out the trash

Fall Fun!

We've been busy with lots of fun fall activities--maybe I should re-phrase this, it was just our October activities! We had such a busy month!

We ended up with 5 little pumpkins from our garden this year! Which lead to much singing of the "5 little pumpkins" song--so now every time Grant sees pumpkins, he starts singing!

A friend and I made a bunch of "spooky" Halloween goodies for a church activity!

We made our annual trip to the pumpkin patch!

We made carmel apples

Ethan had 2 birthday cakes!

We carved a couple of our pumpkins!

And we also enjoyed a visit from my grandparents from Iowa, I subbed 3 -half days at Ethan's preschool, Jon was out of town a few days for work, we attended a birthday party at the Train Museum for Ethan's friend, I met up with old friends from high school for a park date with our kiddos, Ethan's preschool had a Fall Festival, we went out to dinner with my family to celebrate mine and my mom's b-days, Ethan sang in a primary/children's program at church, we attended a Pumpkin Carving Party that some friends hosted, we got lots of candy at a Trunk or Treat at our church, and we refinanced our mortgage! Talk about busy! Maybe November won't be as bad?? No, it was good...we enjoyed all the activities, just a couple days with no plans would be a nice.
