I think most people who read the blog probably know--but Jon is a civil engineer for a design firm in downtown Denver. He designs roadways, often with the Department of Transportation as his client--so he sits a computer most days to lay out roads, review plans, figure quantities, etc.
Recently he's been hard at work--his company has been working for a pretty big project in Nevada--maybe you've heard of the new bridge over the Hoover Dam? Or saw this in the newspaper a couple of weeks ago?
So Jon was one of the ones working on this project--he's not a "bridge" engineer, so he didn't do that, but he worked on the roadway approach (from the Nevada side of the bridge) and also designed a parking lot that is adjacent to the bridge. The bridge was finished last month and a grand opening/dedication was scheduled. All those who worked on it were invited to attend, so Jon went to Las Vegas for a couple days to assist in the opening of it. He said it was fun to see a project through to completion (projects typically take years from the time they are designed to the time they are built and sometimes the whole project is "shelved" until there is money in the budget to actually build it).
Here are some pictures Jon took of the project:
Jon couldn't figure out how to do panoramic on my camera...but you get the idea!
This is looking off the bridge back towards the dam
And this is the other direction from off the bridge

Cool! It definitely is always great to be able to see a project all the way through! Great pics!
